Abstract
Objective: The main purpose of this article was to compare the difference of obese-related quality of life by gender and self perception of body image considering their confounding effects in obese college students.

Methods: The subject of this study were 355 college students with obesity(BMI¡Ã25) in Gachon University in 2014. KOQOL(Korean version of obesity-related quality-of-life) and self perception of body image were measured by survey. KOQOL was evaluated in four areas, psychosocial health, physical and work efficiency, sexual attractiveness, relationship with food, according to reliability and confirmative factor analysis. For each area the difference by gender and self perception of body image was analyzed considering the confounding and interaction effects by using structural equation modeling. The statistical softwares we used were SPSS Win 12.0 and Amos 21 for the analysis of the data.

Results: There were more males than females in obese group, however, more than 79% of males thought they were normal or some fat. This was in contrast to females of whom more than 60% perceived their obesity seriously. Both of gender and self perception of body image affected to QOL with confounding. The area of QOL affected by gender was psychosocial health only and self perception of body image affected to all areas of QOL with filtering confouding factors.

Conclusion: It is necessary for males with obesity to aware their obesity in reality and for females with obesity to improve their mental and social health. Hence diverse program for health improvement is needed in college education program.
